Today we are excited to introduce the Healthie community to Sarah Harris, a dietitian in Nashville who’s just getting started with her private practice (Simpletic Nutrition).
We’ve gotten to know Sarah over the past few weeks as she’s been using Healthie to manage her practice. We can’t wait to watch her practice continue to grow and thrive!
Healthie: What influenced your decision to become a dietitian?
Sarah: I thought I wanted to study PR and marketing, but realized it wasn’t for me. After reading the course catalog in college, I stumbled over “dietetics,” Googled it, and said, “that’s it!” I had never even heard of a dietitian prior to 2007. I found the study of nutrition science fascinating and I’ve never looked back!
Healthie: Can you tell us about your career to date?
Sarah: I started out as a Director of Food and Nutrition Services for a long-term care (LTC) facility outside of Nashville. I never thought I would end up in LTC, but I needed to get a full time job somewhere in Nashville and that is the only job that would hire me right out of school! The Nashville market is saturated with dietetics, which made it more difficult to land that first job.
Treating patients with chronic diseases was rewarding, but I felt pulled into being a bigger part of the preventative effort. I founded Simpletic Nutrition, where I share my personal knowledge and experience of how meal planning and prepping is a cheap, easy, and fast way to realistically live healthy in this fast-paced world in my practice.
Healthie: What makes you most excited about pursuing private practice?
Sarah: Having the opportunity to walk with clients on their journey from start to finish, visually seeing their accomplishments, results and personal achievements is definitely the best part.
Healthie: What advice do you have for dietitians just entering the field of nutrition and dietetics?
Sarah: I am still so new that I don’t really have any advice – I’m still taking all the advice I can get – but I would say find a mentor and dive in.
Healthie: How do you think technology is changing the way dietitians are practicing care?
Sarah: Meeting face-to-face with someone once a month does not provide adequate support for clients beginning their health journey. Clients need daily accountability. Technology makes that possible through virtual journaling and communication.
Healthie: Why are you excited about using Healthie?
Sarah: I’m most excited about the opportunities Healthie is opening up for me as a new entrepreneurial dietitian.
My life (and business) motto is to embrace simplicity in all areas of life. Healthie is super simple and easy to use. It has opened new doors for my business and saved me valuable time. Healthie’s customer service has exceeded my expectations. The personalization and support available for dietitians using this technology is fantastic!
Sarah, you are wonderful and we really appreciate the kind words! Readers, be sure to check out Sarah’s blog where she educates us on why everyone should see a dietitian 🙂
